Squeeze the Day Cocktail
Smgross1947
This cocktail, “Squeeze the Day”, is the second of two themed drinks in honor of the Mom’s on the Move Podcast based out of Greenville, SC.
More about the Mom’s on the Move Podcast:
The “Jennifers” (both hosts are named Jennifer, which I love), host a local Facebook group. Their podcast aims to: “Empower each other, create a place for understanding, and navigate tough topics, with a few laughs in between. We, as women and moms, are in this together.”
To connect with the MoTM community, you can listen to their podcast, follow them on social media, or receive their biweekly newsletter. This features Pimento & Prose recipes & blogs, local recommendations, and coupons to Upstate, SC area shops!

About the Recipe:
I used a ton of in-season, local produce for both of these drinks. The vision for this was something summery and citrusy – a balanced drink, yet sweet to sip on. I wanted the women in my life to have a great-tasting drink they could make for themselves or scale up for a party! Of course, moms are great at seizing the day, so I loved the play on words since this contains two fresh-squeezed juices!
We were lucky to partner with a local Greenville restaurant, Limoncello, to use their bar & house-made limoncello for this recipe. The MoTM Team and I captured some of our photos and a video on YouTube! Their version of this tasty liquor isn’t available for at-home purchase, so we store-bought limoncello for our recipe.
You can find the Frankly’s Grapefruit Vodka we used for ~$23-$24 a bottle, at 19 Wine & Spirits in Greenville, Total Wine in Greenville, or Liquor XPress 3 in Easley. If you happen to have another grapefruit vodka to use up at home, cheers, you can use that too! We loved the fact that Frankly’s had cinnamon and a touch of maple syrup as a sweetener. It’s also #glutenfree, organic, and even Kosher!

- Prep Time: 5m
- Total Time: 5m
- Serves: 1 person
- Yield: 1 serving
- Category: Drinks & Alcohol
Ingredients
- 2 fl oz Limoncello
- 1 fl oz Frankly Grapefruit vodka
- 1 fl oz Fresh squeezed Grapefruit juice
- 1 fl oz Fresh squeezed Lemon juice
Bartending tools needed:
- 1 Bartending shaker
- 1 Bar jigger (usually double sided, used to measure fl.oz. for shots, could also use a liquid measuring cup for this if you have it at home instead)
- 1 Hawthorne strainer
- 1 Small, fine mesh strainer
Instructions
- First, start by juicing one grapefruit into a bowl and about 1-2 lemons for fresh juice into a separate bowl.
- Measure the 2 fl. oz. of limoncello, 1 fl. oz of grapefruit vodka, 1 fl. oz. of grapefruit juice, and 1 fl. oz. of lemon juice into the bartending shaker with a handful of ice; put a lid on the shaker, and shake for about 30 seconds until the mixture is combined and cooled.
- Carefully remove the top of the shaker. Put the Hawthorne strainer over the shaker, and use the fine mesh strainer over your glass to strain your drink from the shaker into your glass of choice. We're double straining this cocktail instead of single straining to make sure we remove all the seeds from the fresh lemon and grapefruit juice.
- To garnish, take a vegetable peeler or small paring knife and cut a long curl of lemon rind off of a lemon. Depending on the size of the rim on your glass, you can cut a small incision in the lemon rind so it holds onto the side of the glass, or you can use a long toothpick to skewer the lemon rind as well and place it along the side of the glass.
- *Optional: if you'd like to add more lemon flavor to your cocktail, you can "express" the oils in the lemon rind. You can do this by gently squeezing the lemon rind with your fingers, over your drink, a little essential oil will come out of it into your drink. Then rub the inside of the rind over the rim of the glass.
