Summer Berry Mocktail

This mocktail “The Summer Berry”, is the first of two themed drinks I created in honor of the Mom’s on the Move Podcast based out of Greenville, SC.

The “Jennifers” (both hosts are named Jennifer, which I love), created their local Facebook group and podcast because: “We want to empower each other and create a place for understanding, while also navigating tough topics, with a few laughs in between. We, as women and moms, are in this together.” Click here to connect with the Moms on the Move community, watch/listen to their podcast, and receive their exclusive biweekly newsletter. Pimento & Prose recipes and blogs are also currently featured in the Mom’s on the Move biweekly digital newsletters along with exclusive local recommendations & coupons to local Greenville shops!

Make sure to tag us @pimentoandprose and @momsonthemove_gvl when you make this exclusive cocktail at home and use the hashtags #summerberrygvl & #squeezethedaygvl too!

I used a ton of in-season, local produce for both of these drinks. The vision was to create something easy and fun to sip on for the women in my life who might not want to, or couldn’t drink alcohol for whatever reason (be it pregnancy, taking a break from drinking, etc.), but who still wanted to have a great tasting, balanced drink they could enjoy for themselves or scale up for a party!

We were also lucky enough to partner with a local Greenville restaurant, Limoncello, to be able to use their restaurant bar for some of our photos and videos for behind the scenes on how to make these drinks (check out our handles above for those later today)!

I also wanted both drinks to be related to each other with ingredients, so both feature lemon elements and fresh, in-season fruit for our area in them (strawberries in the mocktail, and grapefruit in the cocktail!).

Squeeze the Day Cocktail

This cocktail, “Squeeze the Day”, is the second of two themed drinks I created in honor of the Mom’s on the Move Podcast based out of Greenville, SC. I used a ton of in-season, local produce for both of these drinks. The vision for this was wanting something summery and citrusy, yet sweet to sip on for the women in my life to have a great tasting, balanced, and scalable drink they could make for themselves or for a party!

Moms are great at seizing the day, so loved the play on words with the fact that this had two fresh-squeezed juices in it too!

We were also lucky enough to partner with a local Greenville restaurant, Limoncello, to be able to use their restaurant bar and house-made limoncello for this recipe and some of our photos! However, their version of this tasty liquor is not available for at-home purchase or consumption, so we used normal store-bought limoncello for our recipe testing below.

You can find Frankly’s Grapefruit Vodka in the Upstate, SC area here for around $23-$24 a bottle at 19 Wine & Spirits in Greenville, Total Wine in Greenville, or Liquor XPress 3 in Easley, or if you happen to have another grapefruit vodka to use up at home, cheers, you can use that too! We loved the fact that Frankly’s had cinnamon, a touch of maple syrup as a sweetener, was #glutenfree, organic, and even Kosher as well!

Boozy Non-Dairy Creamsicle Frost

I love dessert drinks, this was such a fun way to use the orange puree from our Columbian Puree project (see more about that here). Check out the recipe below for a sweet non-dairy spin on the classic orange dreamsicle popsicle, which can easily be made kid-friendly by omitting the alcohol.

Boozy Chocolate Orange Bomb

These drinks tasted exactly like the chocolate oranges I used to get in my Christmas stocking (shoutout to Terry’s!). I love dessert drinks, so this was a fun way to use the orange puree from our Columbian Puree project (see more about that here). Check out the recipe below for a sweet non-dairy spin on the chocolate oranges I remember from my childhood, which can easily be made kid-friendly by omitting the alcohol.

Tropical Tanager Tea

This Tropical Tanager Tea recipe is named after the Multi-colored Tanager, a species of bird native to the mountains of Colombia. I thought it was a great muse to name this tea after! This recipe is an homage to one of Colombia’s prettiest species, as the ingredients I chose to add to this tropical tea recipe match the bird’s vibrant colors.

Recipe Notes:

  • For this recipe, we used one of the amazing fruit purees from our friends at Wislla Distribution, the Naranjilla (a Colombian citrus) fruit. However, you could sub that out with orange juice, mango nectar, or another mixed fruit juice of choice!
  • This recipe goes really well with a dash of rum too (for my adult 21+ drinkers)!
  • It lasts up to one week in the fridge in a covered pitcher.

Peach Cider Bellinis

Break out the bubbly! This is a perfect seasonal southern spin on a regular Peach Bellini with our Peach Cider Bellinis using local Abbott’s Farms peach cider and peaches! We made these as the themed drink for my parent’s 32nd-anniversary dinner, where each course had a peach element. Check out the full blog for the rest of the menu and recipes here.
