Weekend Foodie Warriors- Take 9!

Hello hello, again, Foodie Friends 🙂 Hope you had a fantastic Kentucky Derby and Cinco de Mayo weekend- another holiday double whammy! In this edition of Foodie Adventures, I’ll be jam packing 4 new adventures in — Master’s Graduation Ceremony, Asian Supermarket road-trip, Farmhouse Pizza, and a day at the Greenville Drive game!

One of my best friends from college was graduating from his Master’s of Public Health program this weekend and I was so excited to be a part of it! Hunter had been studying his tail off at ECU, learning everything from pharmaceutical information to how to prevent & research massive diseases (he’d love to go work for the CDC- Center for Disease Control).

With Public Health, he tells me, it affects us a lot more than we realize on a daily basis. The food scores at restaurants, for which results are always posted online, help people know how safe and up to food standards restaurants are or why points were taken off. Public Health also helps identify food deserts and the methods and resources to help fix or alleviate them, as well as educating Americans on how to eat right, reduce heart disease, obesity, etc.

So I took the day off on Friday and hightailed it to our sister city, Greenville, North Carolina, and made it just in time to see him and about 20 other fantastic folks walk across the stage. This, of course, was followed by a banquet!

I don’t know about you but I had personally never been to an Asian supermarket until my friends and I walked into one looking for a wok for my buddy’s kitchen.

Let me tell you, this place was an Asian food wonderland 😍 anything from rice to mochi, soy sauce to Gochujang, pot stickers to green tea, and so much more, it’s inspired me to create a whole week devoted to all things Asian!

My plan is to make a vlog or live Instagram of friends and I trying out snack foods from the store, and have a couple recipes involving Asian ingredients. I might even bring in one of my friends as a guest cook, he owns a wok and loves cooking with these types of ingredients. Stay tuned for that in the near future!

I had driven by the restaurant as they were building it a few months ago, and was super excited to have a new pizza place in the neighborhood! I had heard such great things about their sister restaurant, Farmhouse Tacos (link above), and have yet to visit them, but made it a priority to check out Farmhouse Pizza.

Farmhouse Pizza was built out of the old Monterrey Mexican restaurant, which had occupied the space for the last 30 years. The pizza place had given it a fresh face-lift, with bright white brick walls, teal colored chairs, and an industrial wood feel.

My roommate’s own words- “These garlic rolls are better than ______(Insert pizza place’s name he would drive 2 hours to Charlotte for we used to hang out at in college). Oh my gosh the dough is so fresh, you can really tell with these. They taste like euphoria- this is our new Garlic Knot Spot!”

Next was pizza. We would’ve tried every pizza on the menu if we had the time and room in our stomachs, but we chose two pizzas- The Antique (left) and The Roasted Mushroom (middle).

We will absolutely come back here, the garlic knots were great, the pizza was awesome, and the free arcade games next to the bar were worth hanging out more for! Amanda, our waitress, was hilarious and so helpful, and Emily, the GM, was super sweet and ended up talking with us a few minutes about my blog and the restaurant as well. Highly recommend checking this place out for all my pizza lovers 🍕😋

Last time we were at a game, we were in the stands, but this weekend was different. I was lucky enough for my friends and I to get box suite tickets through my work. This was my first time in a suite for a game and it was an amazing experience, I’m very grateful for the opportunity to go.

The game was against the Charleston River Dogs, and it was a game celebrating the Reading All Stars Program winners through Michelin. There were a lot of happy kids getting to pick out books for reading a bunch!
