Weekend Foodie Warriors- Take 4!
Hello hello, again, Foodie Friends 🙂 Hope you had an awesome sunny weekend! In this edition of Foodie Adventures, I’ll be talking about the 5 Year Anniversary for Swamp Rabbit Brewing Company and Mo & Joe’s BBQ.
The weather was gorgeous here and we spent most of our time enjoying the outdoors 😎☀ Beach volleyball with friends, checking out local parks, and being out in nature.
It was the perfect time to enjoy the 5th Anniversary of Swamp Rabbit Brewery, one of the anchor points of the great Swamp Rabbit Trail that runs through Greenville and the surrounding Upstate, SC area. It’s a great place to end the trail if you’re biking, which is an awesome weekend activity I’ve been dying to try out!
We went straight to the backyard to find food first when we got there – priorities, am I right?
I must say I love barbecue. Growing up in the Northeast, however, when someone says you’re going to “barbecue” something, it means throwing it on a grill with some marinade, like grilled chicken, shrimp, steak, etc. We didn’t truly know what barbecue was until we moved to the South, and by then we were hooked!
Mo & Joe’s was absolutely delicious, and definitely Carolina style (vinegar based) barbecue. We got the pulled pork sandwich and chicken wings, and the smokey flavor from the chicken was outstanding!
Coolest part was that as we were eating, Joe (one of the owners), came up to us, asked us how everything was, and told us a little about his food and business. His BBQ was featured on “Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmerman” on the Travel Channel – They even got a shout-out on Instagram!!
If you click on the video link below, and scroll until about 0:16 seconds in, you see Mo and Joe talk about their famous Junk Juice, which gives their BBQ so much tangy, yummy flavor: https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=10154973914628851
I would totally go visit them again, always love finding great local BBQ joints to check out in my travels!
We got there late to the party but this place was poppin’! There were a few areas you could hang out, starting with the outside seating overlooking Main Street Traveler’s Rest. Once inside the brewery, you were greeted by a colorful array of decor, rabbit themed items, and the great folks behind the bar, wearing SRB (Swamp Rabbit Brewery) swag. The next area you came to was a covered patio overlooking the yard you see in the above picture, with picnic tables, twinkly lights, and a stage just to my left off camera.
They had special brews just for their anniversary, from a light Crispy Creme Ale to a Raspberry White Ale (which sold out about 2-4 hours into the event), to their “Numbskull Maibock”, the 2016 Great American Beer Festival Silver medal winner. It’s a bock beer – which was amber in color, smooth, & malty!
