Weekend Foodie Warriors – Take 30! Green Bay, WI *Guest Edition*
Hello there foodies! This week I, your new guest writer, Jamie, have traveled to the far north in Green Bay, Wisconsin – cheese country! I visited a lot of local bars in the heart of Green Bay, tasted dozens of cheeses in Egg Harbor, and, of course, watched a game at historic Lambeau field. Go Pack Go!
I was once told once you can do a lot of drinking and watching football in Green Bay. With bars like Legend Larry’s, I could watch football all day long. Their wings were recommended by a local guide, The Green Bay Guy, and he is spot on. The wings were packed with flavor… and hot!
We started the weekend at Replay’s Bar and Grill for a few drinks and $2 hamburgers! I called ahead of time to ask if they meant real hamburgers or something like White Castle. I wasn’t disappointed.

The next day was a cheese day. Wisconsin is all about cheese of every kind. I heard from a master cheesemaker in Egg Harbor, WI that 90% of all the milk collected in Wisconsin is used to make cheese. I made my way up the little spike just northeast of Green Bay (up the spiky thing in between Lake Michigan and the bay).
I first stopped at a country store containing everything you could ever want. Jams, breads, pickled vegetables, unique decorations, and apple doughnuts! I know Sarah loves those so I had to get a picture to show her. 🍩
Across the street was Door Artisan Cheese Company. They’ve been open for two years, but have clearly made an impression in Egg Harbor. Dozens of different cheeses were made available for sampling around their retail store including two year aged cheddar, jalepeño jack, and their award winning parmesan & gouda blend. Their master cheesemaker then gave me a quick tour of their cheese cave (see below)!
After a quick rest back at the hotel, it was time for a tour of the most historic professional football stadium in the NFL, Lambeua Field.
Lambeua Field is a beautiful stadium with a mix of historic and modern. The new-ish atrium is amazing with the 1919 Kitchen & Bar and Packers Pro Shop.
The next morning I took another recommendation from The Green Bay Guy (link to his blog in blue) and went to a local diner, The Pancake Place. I ordered a “half” order of country hash browns, which were topped with 2 over-easy eggs, sausage, and country style gravy.
For dessert I ordered a cranberry and apple pancake. It was as big as a frisbee. You don’t see many diners like The Pancake Place in the south.
The final stop, of course, was to watch the game – Green Bay Packers vs. The Detroit Lions on Monday night. Green Bay was behind all game, but pulled it together at the end to kick a game winning field goal.
Green Bay is definitely worth visiting. I wouldn’t plan more than a few days because Green Bay is a small town, but Milwaukee is only a couple of hours south if you wanted to see a bigger city. Lake Michigan is beautiful; the small-town feel brings back old memories, and the food never disappoints.

I made some good soup. Winter Squash soup, Chicken Tortilla and Zuppa Toscany.
We ate out Philly Cheese Steaks and Jerk chicken in Salem, VA yesterday.
Ooh it’s coming up on soup season, I have a really great one for a meatball soup I’ll have to try and recreate, love a good squash soup!
