Weekend Foodie Warriors – Take 39!
Hello hello, again, Foodie Friends ๐ Hope you had a fantastic weekend in! We have a shorter edition of Foodie Adventures, with the new review of Wendy’s breakfast menu, Take-out meal adventures, and Homemade meatball making & recipe!
Hi all๐๐ป Hope you’re all doing well and taking care of yourselves and those around you (from a safe distance of course). ๐ We wanted to talk about some fun and lighter things this week since the weekend for us consisted of chores, spring cleaning, and cleaning out our closets. We of course got some more take-out and cooked, so stay tuned for that in a bit!
Jamie went out for breakfast at Wendy’s last week (he took it home, don’t worry!), and as I was in meetings all day, he decided to take over the review of this one for me. Wendy’s has just recently started serving breakfast (which starts at 6:30 AM and runs to 10:30 AM. Breakfast delivery for most begins at 8:00 AM local time!). Jamie got a trio of items to make it a more balanced meal – hot coffee, seasoned potato wedges, and a maple honey butter chicken biscuit. I’m salivating at 10 pm writing this. ๐
According to his review:
The biscuit was normal, big and slightly fluffy. The chicken breading was what you would expect from a Wendy’s fried chicken breast (not too much and not too little) and it was a whole breast of great pull-apart chicken. But the maple honey butter is what really put the taste over the top! โญโญโญโญ out of โญโญโญโญโญ!

So what do you think friends, have you tried their breakfast yet? Would you stop there on your way to work if you had a chance? Let us know in the comments below! ๐
Take – Out Adventures!
Greenville, SC
In the last week or so, we’ve been trying to be cautious about going out, but still have wanted to do all we could to support local businesses and restaurants. We started with breakfast this weekend with a fan favorite here at Pimento & Prose, Greenfield’s Bagels!
Ordering a dozen of my favorite flavors online was super easy and I could customize which ones I wanted! They also use Bite Squad in case you want it delivered ๐
The first picture is my go-to – Brown Sugar Blueberry bagel with cranberry goat cheese, which is a great non dairy alternative to cream cheese! A lot of folks who are lactose intolerant like myself find they don’t have a problem with goat cheese, that’s why I use it a lot in my recipes.
The second picture is the bag of goodies (I shared with Jamie and my roommate, don’t worry ๐๐ฅฏ), and then Jamie’s bagel, a Cinnamon Raisin topped with fresh strawberries and a drizzle of local honey. What are your favorite ways to top a bagel? Tell us below!
We had wanted to try a new weekend date night spot, and we chose local favorite Willy Taco – Feed & Seed (we were in the mood for tacos!). We had both been numerous times – and did you know the owners of Willy Taco also own the cool outdoor bar Fr8Yard in Spartanburg, SC? Really cool place to hang out if you get a chance to visit.
I went straight for the seafood tacos, and Jamie decided to mix things up with a taco and a Mexi-Dip torta (sandwich in Spanish). The sandwich (right) included “Dos-Equis braised Black Angus brisket, pimento cheese, spicy house pickles, chipotle BBQ sauce, frizzled onions, house au jus (gravy)”, and house made chips! He also got a “Hot Chick” taco, with “crispy hot chicken tenders, pimento cheese, shaved lettuce, tabasco crema, spicy pickles, and applewood smoked bacon” (bottom left picture).
I chose three tacos (left), The Southern Tide (crispy shrimp, applewood smoked bacon, pimento cheese, lettuce, pico, and chipoltle ranch), The Baja Fish (beer battered cod, crispy cabbage, pico, Willyโs house crema ), and rounding it out with the Patagonia Steak (grilled marinated steak, shaved cabbage, chimichurri, charred tomatillos, chipotle ranch, frizzled onions, and chopped cilantro).
My favorites was probably the Southern Tide, followed by the Patagonia Steak, and finally the Baja Fish. I’ll be totally honest here, I stole most of Jamie’s house chips (those really well made are such a weakness of mine), and they had a great seasoning on them too!
What are your favorite taco ingredients? Let us know below! ๐๐ฎ
Tonight for dinner (both date night and #takeoutthursday, serendipitous-ly), we found a long lost gift card in a drawer an old friend had given me for Smoky Dreams. We live pretty close and had spent the last three years driving by, being tempted by the amazing smells wafting from the parking lot as we drove past. The gift card had no expiration date or amount on it, so we took a risk and decided to give it a shot!
This little shack in a parking lot next to McDonald’s was humble, with a really cool space with cafe lights out front and a giant smoker, where I could just imagine people hanging out and taking in the sights and smells from inside.
We decided on the Pulled Pork plate with slaw and green beans (my second favorite BBQ side dish, second only to cornbread), and Jamie got a Smoked Brisket sandwich with their homemade “Sweet Potato Crunch” casserole. Let me tell you – that stuff is like digging for sweet, sweet pecan brown sugar gold right there. ๐ฅฐ๐
Then because we had to drive back to get said sweet potato crunch (I forgot to check the bag before I left, rookie move on my part) they were sweet enough to give us a small tub of ‘nana pudding and Max got a sample of their “Great Grandma’s mac & cheese recipe”. We made sure to give them an extra tip after that. Everything was absolutely to die for and we were in love with every bite we took! ๐๐ This is now on our Top Three BBQ List of places and we will absolutely be going back again!!
Homemade meatball making & recipe
Sometimes, we just want comfort food when we’re feeling low or times are tough. This is my story about how we changed my mom’s meatball recipe for meal prep this week, recipe included!
When Jamie and I went grocery shopping to meal prep a couple weeks ago, (I can’t believe I haven’t been to the grocery store in a week and a half, I think this is a record for me!) we knew that meatballs would be a relatively cheap and long lasting thing to meal prep. We ended up calling ahead to a few grocery stores, who proceeded to tell us there was no ground beef or pork left in stock.
We finally found a couple pounds of ground beef at Lidl and then when we couldn’t find ground pork after two more stores, found some ground up Italian sausage and decided to improvise!
This recipe below is a family favorite and I hope it becomes one for yours too! We’re working on different renditions of these coming up soon with a Mexican fusion twist, so stay tuned!!
